Divorce Advice: Signs It’s Time to Get a Divorce

If you have gone through any of these instances, you might want to schedule a consultation with our divorce attorney.

Marriage is a beautiful arrangement, but it’s not always a bed of roses. Challenges are bound to happen. And when they do, both spouses are expected to iron them out consciously and healthily. Unfortunately, however, some challenges can be hard to resolve, and you may find yourself contemplating divorce.

Below are some reasons why many people consider divorce. If you’re in any of these situations, you may be ready for divorce.

Infidelity

Marriage comes with an agreement not to have sex outside your marriage. Being cheated on can result in anguish, depression, trust issues, and humiliation. If your partner cheats on you, it might be time to end things.

You may be able to forgive micro-cheating and reignite that spark through marriage counseling. But if it is repeated infidelity, calling it quits maybe your only safe way out.

Abusive Marriage

You should feel safe and protected in your marriage. However, if your spouse starts abusing you verbally, emotionally, or physically, it might be time to close the chapter on your relationship. Staying in an abusive marriage because you love your spouse or feel guilty for divorcing them is a recipe for sadness, frustration, unhappiness, and possible further abuse.

Drug Abuse

It’s impossible to be in a fulfilling marriage if your spouse has a drug addiction. Drug abuse can impair judgment, cause emotional instability, and lead to conflicts at home. If your spouse is a drug addict, that might not be a marriage or relationship that you want to hold onto.

Lack of Intimacy

Intimacy is part of the foundation of a healthy marriage. Lack of it means your marriage may be in trouble. Intimacy may not be an issue when you move in with your partner. But with time, you may start to notice they’re no longer interested in intimacy or anything that speaks of love and affection.

Marital counseling can help you and your spouse pick the broken pieces of your marriage and rebuild your love and affection. But if nothing changes, then you might want to evaluate divorce as an alternative.
